Title: Carcassonne for Nintendo DS Post by: Whaleyland on November 03, 2009, 03:09:20 am Hans im Glück's homepage (http://www.hans-im-glueck.de/) has an interesting announcement that they've released a new Nintendo DS version of Carcassonne. The most interesting thing, especially with Jay just telling me that HiG still has a lot of ideas for Carc, is that there are a bunch of different geographic location scenarios included in the DS version. This may suggest that HiG is considering going with the New World concept toward other places like the Middle East, Asia, Africa, etc. It's just speculation, but I wouldn't discount it. I also wonder if there are any new expansion elements or rules included in the DS version that are not currently in print form. That, too, could suggest a new expansion coming next year.
I also just noticed that CarcassonneCentral is listed on HiG's list of fan sites. Awesome! Title: Re: Carcassonne for Nintendo DS Post by: Novelty on November 03, 2009, 04:36:27 am Thanks for the info Whaley. I've added it to the News section of the front page!

My german is a bit rusty, but "Inklusive der beliebten Erweiterung Fluss" means "Includes the popular expansion River". As yet we've not hit any special rules or new expansion pieces, but it certainly is a fun way to play. The "Story Mode" takes you through the basic rules of tile placement, then starts to get a bit more tricky by giving variations in gameplay such as preventing you from utilising farms (as the peasants are revolting), but your A.I. opponents do not suffer the same restriction. Some games pit you against a single AI opponent while others put you against 3. So far we've not come across the inclusion of any expansion pack rules apart from "River I", but as we're only on the second set of screens (about 30% through the game) there's plenty of time yet. Some games start with the classic city/road/field tile whereas others start with multiple tiles already laid down - either as the river or multiple partially completed cities with spaces between them. Alongside the game is the on-going saga of yourself and another junior stonemason and it is this which indicates the different scenarios and restrictions. Part 1 is based in classic Carcassonne. Part 2 is in Scotland. Not sure where parts 3 onwards are located, but in the Quickplay mode you can pick from four sets of tiles which include desert and snow. Sometimes the placement of AI meeples seems a bit scatter-shot, but despite that if you've got an NDS, then this is worth picking up. Simon.
